Hi, we are building a cob wall at 35 Wyman St. in Jamaica Plain -- if you
have an interest in learning this natural building technique, come on by,
your help is welcome. More details below and at: www.heartbeatcollective.org

Saturday October 6th and Sunday October 7th, 10am until dark. This will be
our final push in the mud before we tarp it for the Winter.

Some folks have asked, why are you building a cob wall?

* Well, first, because it's fun. Getting dirty in the mud pit with friends
is just a good time.

* Second, we are learning an ancient natural building technique used to
construct homes, saunas, benches, sheds, bread ovens, etc. All cultures
around the world have some method of building out of Earth, and these
structures are durable and low impact.

* And it beautifies the neighborhood, replacing an ugly chain link fence
with a flowing earthen fence. Next Spring, we'll be adding elements like
rounded windows and a relief sculpture of a sea turtle, and inviting members
of the community to add marbles, polished glass, and mirrors to the turtle's
shell.

* Also, it enhances the sanctuary feel of 35 Wyman St., providing more
privacy and improving the container for the work we do.

* And most importantly, it builds community. Taking time out of our hectic
lives to work hard, laugh, eat well, and chat with friends and neighbors
reminds us what being human is all about. The exercise feels good, the heavy
sleep after a solid day's work is blissful, and the connections made and
deepened are divine.

So come by and visit, even if just to say hello.

Hope to see you this weekend,
Orion

"I wonder why love is so often equated with joy when it is everything else
as well. Devastation, balm, obsession, granting and receiving excessive
value, and losing it again. It is recognition, often of what you are not,
but might be. It sears and it heals. It is beyond pity and above law. It
can seem like truth. But what is truth? Oh this mysterious world in which we
know nothing, nothing."
