 hi folks,

We're only a couple of days away from the big workshop. I wanted to share a
bit about where we are at, what it is all about, and how you can get
involved these upcoming weekends.

Cob Building is a natural building technique that utlizes clay, sand and
straw mostly, to build beautiful earthen structures. It is an ancient
technique that provides great insulation, beautiful and organic living
spaces, and a structure that can last for hundreds of years. This workshop
is a the first step for us in a process for sharing these skills with our
community, with the long term hopes of building a solar passive, solar
energy, home with a green roof here at the "Temple", which will be our urban
model for the homes we hope to build on land that we plan to find and
acquire in western Mass. over the next five years. This is a technique for
living in a spaces that aren't box-like.

Our teachers, Kate Sheppard and Colleen Mathews are local sculptors and
cobbists. The rate to learn the techniques is $100/weekend. The classes
begin
and 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Please do not arrive later than 10 if
possible. There will be a lunch break to avoid the hottest part of the day,
and we will begin work again after lunch. Please bring your own lunch, or
we can point you to some close by eateries. If you can't make it over by
10, come for the afternoon shifts. We will go to just before sundown each
night. We will provide a vegan dinner for all at the end of each work day.
Please contact me if you are interested in doing work exchange. We
specifically could use a hand today, Thurdsay and tomorrow, Friday,
finishing up the prep work. We have already dug up an enormous amount of
earth and are excited to finish the ditch later today, and to begin work on
the foundation tomorrow.

Our wish list includes:
pointed shovels
extra wheelbarrow
old tarps
work gloves (for yourself)
sacred stones for the foundation, or that you'd like to add
your favorite CD's to play

Please feel free to stop in for an hour to lend a hand over the next fifty
hours as we put the finishing touches on the prep work.
We also will be offering yoga, some body work over the weekend, and
potentially some chiropractic adjustments from Dr. Lisa Geiger on Sunday.
Yes, we have fun when we work.

Please give us a call if you have any questions.

Looking forward to building together now and/or in the future,

Jason Cohen
