More to the point on confidentiality, this is actually an open list with public archives. You can find the archives of this conversation, for example, at bostoncoop.net in January 2007:

I also know that the archives are google etc searchable, since at one point someone doing a search on me told me they'd found an old posting of mine here ("I never knew you used to live in a coop!" :D). 

In general I think it's probably best to assume lack of confidentiality on email lists unless you know it's otherwise.

ps - To be clear, I have no problem with this fact - find the public archive useful as it means I don't have to save all these emails myself. Just want to be sure folks know.
