I help purchase food for a 14 person coop. If anyone is interested in finding out about ordering organic produce in bulk, please feel free to contact me. We currently get most of our produce from Harvest but order some staples like potatoes, onions and kale in bulk. Also, you can order produce items in bulk from Harvest and receive a 10% discount on the price if you are a member and 5% if you are a non-member.

p.s. I understand not everyone lives in a 14 person house and may not or cannot buy in bulk for various reasons - we often split items with other houses especially for some products where we won't use a whole case or can't afford it that month. There are a few different buying clubs and pick-up locations throughout the boston area.

I concur, I was just thinking the same thing, at least about the corporate power of WholeFoods. It's a multi-state, if not national chain. I don't really shop at WholeFoods, not so much for political reasons, but because it's a little less accessible to me (I live in JP). Anywho, Happy Shopping....!

  Peace,
  Maruka

forgive me if I'm overstepping the culture of this listserve, but doesn't this have a lot to do with the corporate buying power of the Whole Foods chain, which has at times been pretty explicit about being on a mission to squash local food coops, including Harvest? I feel like I'm shopping at Harvest more for political reasons than to necessarily get the lowest price.

communicating their concerns to the Board.

All--

I'm catering a party for 100, and part of the menu is lamb (which I
rarely cook), so I bought that at Whole Foods Prospect Street store.
While I was there (I'm never there, I'm always at Harvest), I did some
comparisons pricing of organic produce, and ended up buying all my
produce there. I thought you might be interested in the difference,
which surprized me quite a bit.

Best,
Jeff
