Hey folks. In case anyone's interested, there are two cool coop
conferences coming up this fall:
1) the US Federation of Worker Coops is hosting their national biennial
conference in NYC October 13th - 15th. See www.usworker.coop for more
information
2) North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO), the national network of
group-equity* coops is having their national conference November 3-5 in
Ann Arbor, MI. for more information, check out www.nasco.coop
I've been to the NASCO conference 3 times, and will be heading back again
this year. Its a great conference, and would love to see other coops from
Boston represented there. Without NASCO, we wouldn't have been able to
purchase our coop, so I can concretely say they have a lot to offer. BCC
and NASCO members are eligible for subsidies to the NASCO conference, so
if money is a concern, let's find a way to make it work.
I also went to the Eastern Conference on Workplace Democracy (the regional
affiliate of the US Federation of Worker Coops) a year ago and that was
great as well. If anyone is interested or has questions, feel free to
contact me, and feel free to forward this to other coop-oriented folks.
In cooperation,
Micha

* group equity is a term to describe coops who's wealth accumulates solely
with the coop as a whole and not at all with individual members. Most of
the coops in this network are collective-living houses or dorms, though
there are some worker coops as well as other allied organizations as well.
